Mike Lott
Mike Lott is a native of Petal, an honors graduate of Petal High School (1974), and an alumnus of William Carey College (1978) in Hattiesburg, MS, where he received a BA in Social Science and was certified to teach Social Studies in grades 7-12. His first teaching job was at Petal High School; after his first two years of teaching, he enrolled at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received his Master’s Degree in Religious Education. After serving several churches for about 13 years as a youth and education director, Lott re-entered the classroom setting, became certified as a school administrator, and served in that role in West Monroe, Louisiana, in the Petal School District, and in the Perry County School District.
In 1999 and again in 2003, Lott was elected by the voters in Petal and Forrest County to represent them in the Mississippi House of Representatives (2000-2007), after which he term-limited his service. He then returned to his role as a school administrator until May, 2019, when he retired from public school service.
In May of 2020, Mike Lott was chosen in a special election to complete the vacated one-year term for Alderman at Large; a year later, he was unopposed in an election for a full four-year term and is currently serving in that role. Lott and his wife Ellie were married in 1978, and they have a son (Ryan), a daughter (Emily), and four granddaughters. Mike and Ellie are active members of Petal-Harvey Baptist Church, where he serves in the role of deacon, a member of the church finance committee, and a member of the Celebration Choir.
