Petal Police Department Hiring Process

Individuals shall pick up and turn in applications at City Hall, 119 West 8th Avenue for employment between 8:00a.m. - 4:30p.m. (Monday-Friday).  Applications will be forwarded to the Police Dept via the Human Resources Dept.  Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, prohibits discrimination in hiring, promotion, discharge, pay, fringe benefits, job training, classification, referral, and other aspects of employment, on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin.

Applicants must show proof of a valid Mississippi driver license and pass NCIC background check before the hiring process begins. 

Law enforcement officer

Minimum requirements:
 Be a United States citizen
 Be at least twenty-one (21) years of age
 Possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License
 Have a high school diploma or GED
 Successfully complete the minimum training required for certification
 Be free of any felony convictions
 Be subject to thorough background investigations and personal interviews by Petal Police Department personnel
 Demonstrate honesty and integrity, by successfully completing pre-employment polygraph and drug testing
 Demonstrate good general medical health as determined by a medical doctor, who is licensed by the Mississippi State Board of Medical Examiners, 
and physical performance testing

 Be declared in satisfactory psychological and emotional health

Pay & Benefits:
 $44,000 -$48,500 annually, based on experience

Dispatcher

Minimum requirements:
 Must be at least 18 years of age
 High school diploma or GED
 Possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License
 Excellent communication and multitasking skills
 Have good typing ability
 Must pass a criminal background check
 Successfully complete the minimum training required for certification
 Demonstrate honesty and integrity, by successfully completing pre-employment polygraph and drug testing

Pay & Benefits:
 $36,000 - $40,000 annually, based on experience
