Mission statement

The men and women of the Petal Police Department are committed to excellence in partnership with the community by upholding the Constitution of the United States, the laws of the State of Mississippi, and the City of Petal. We acknowledge our responsibility to be role models by promoting diversity, building trust, reducing crime, and providing a safe environment, thus enhancing the quality of Integrity, Professionalism, Fairness, Compassion, and Respect.

​Commitment of Department

The Petal Police Department is committed to the betterment of all the citizens who live and travel through the city of Petal. We take pride in ourselves being a proactive police department, making the city a safer place for everyone.

Our department is made up of several divisions, which include:

• Patrol
• Traffic
• Investigations
• Animal Warden

We also have a strong support system in our civilian staff to include part-time and full-time dispatch. 

The Petal Police Department is currently operating under the administration of Chief Matthew Hiatt. Chief Hiatt feels strongly about promoting and engaging in community policing. The benefits of this program will bring the community and the police department closer together as well as make the community a safer place to live. It will also give the officers and the citizens an opportunity to get to know one another, with everyone working towards a common goal.​
